Meet the CPA Canada Cayman chapter board members

The membership of CPA Canada's Cayman chapter board reflects a cross-section of perspectives based on legacy designation, area of practice and experience since becoming qualified as a professional accountant.

Chair

Karen Watson, CPA, CA, CFA

Karen is the Global Head of Fund Operations at Maples Fund Services and is responsible for overseeing global fund operations across all Maples Fund Services offices including fund accounting and RTA processes, policies and procedures, regulatory implementation, client on-boarding and product development. Karen has extensive experience in providing fund administration services to a wide range of investment funds, both hedge fund and private equity structures, as well as expertise in the analytical and reporting requirements of private equity and hedge funds. She also serves as a director on the boards of select hedge funds. Karen joined Maples Fund Services in 2006. She previously worked for Fortis Prime Fund Solutions (Cayman) Limited, Ernst and Young Cayman Islands and Grant Thornton in Canada. Karen received a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting with honors from the University of Prince Edward Island in 1998.

Vice-Chair

Angilynn Chan-Baraud, CPA, CA

Angilynn is the CEO of Baraud International, the Cayman Islands’ pioneering recruitment and immigration consultancy and spends a good portion of time advising organizations on setting up operations in the Cayman Islands from a staffing and immigration perspective. Her professional background is based in accountancy having spent over 12 years at PwC in both Canada and the Cayman Islands. She has a Bachelor of Management from the University of Lethbridge, a Masters in Professional Accounting from the University of Saskatchewan, and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada and Alberta, as well as the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants. Her in-depth experience covers a variety of financial services including hedge funds, special purpose entities and insurance companies. She is very active in the Cayman community as well as 100 Women in Finance (100 WF). Angilynn is an inaugural member of the Cayman 100 WF NextGen Committee as well as sustaining 100WF Global Angel and most recently has also been appointed to the 100WF Global Advisory Committee.

Secretary

Anne-Marie Leadbetter, CPA, CA

Anne-Marie articled with the Office of the Auditor General of British Columbia and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2000. She moved to the Cayman Islands in 2002 to work in the audit department at KPMG and has worked in the hedge fund industry for over thirteen years. Anne-Marie also has experience in the captive insurance industry as she worked at Aon Insurance Managers for almost two years as an account manager. She then moved into fund administration at Goldman Sachs for two and a half years for various fund structures. Anne-Marie most recently spent five years working for an investment manager, GLG/Man Group, in their finance department, and currently works for The Harbour Trust Co. Ltd. providing fiduciary services to funds and other structures. Anne-Marie is also an accredited director and a notary public of the Cayman Islands.

Treasurer

Daniel Jones, CPA, CA, CFA

Daniel is an Audit Director with KPMG in the Cayman Islands and has over 10 years of assurance experience. He has international experience in assurance engagements involving a variety of investment fund structures and strategies including retail, hedge, private equity and venture capital funds. After earning his Honours in Business Administration Co-op at the University of Windsor, Ontario, he earned the Chartered Accountant designation in 2010 and Chartered Professional Accountant designation in 2014. He also became a CFA Charter holder in 2016. Daniel is originally from Windsor, Ontario. Prior to residing in the Cayman Islands, Daniel was a marker for the Chartered Accountant’s Uniform Final Examination and Ontario School of Accountancy examination. He also mentored multiple candidates for those examinations. He currently continues to take an active role in professional development, training and coaching within KPMG and the Cayman Islands. 

Board Members

Paul Arbo, CPA, CA, ACI

Paul has over 20 years of assurance, tax and consulting experience in Canada and the Cayman Islands. He has been with BDO in the Cayman Islands for thirteen years, handling most of the insurance clients in the firm’s portfolio as well as a mix of funds and operating company clients during this time. Paul holds the Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI) designation from the International Center for Captive Insurance Education, a widely regarded certification within the industry. He is a member of the Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants as well as the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (New Brunswick). Paul also sits on the Marketing Committee of the Insurance Managers Association of Cayman as well as acting as the volunteer treasurer for Rotary Central Cayman Islands.

Louis Boucher, P.Eng., MBA, CPA

Louis Boucher’s experience spans all aspects of operational and financial management, from leading financial and managerial reporting and analysis to controlling costs, optimizing asset performance, enhancing profits and harnessing cross-functional team strengths to promote innovation and to improve company-wide performance. Louis has both regional and international experience evaluating capital investment decisions, developing energy supply & demand management policies, ratemaking and leading negotiations in the electricity, water and energy sectors. He has led and managed the assessment of conventional and renewable energy projects from a technological, environmental and financial viability standpoint. He also holds an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University and a Master of Business Administration degree from HEC Montreal concentrating in Corporate Finance and Operations Management. He is both a Registered Professional Engineer and a Chartered Professional Accountant specializing in Finance and Performance Management.

Fareed Hosein, CPA, CA

Fareed moved to the Cayman Islands in 1995 transferring from KPMG Winnipeg to KPMG Cayman Islands and has worked in the financial services industry for over 25 years. He is currently an entrepreneur in Grand Cayman and also a Professor at a local College, where he is teaching advanced accounting courses. Fareed received his Chartered Professional Accountants designation in 1992 and Certified Public Accountant's designation in 2002 and he has also obtained an International MBA in 2005.

Chad Smith, CPA, CA

Chad currently works for Harmonic Fund Services, dealing with a variety of private equity and hybrid fund structures. Prior to this, he worked for Grant Thornton’s assurance practice in various sectors such as captive insurance, hedge funds and tourism. After graduating from the University of Prince Edward Island in 2013, he articled with Fitzpatrick and Company Chartered Professional Accountants in Charlottetown, PE and earned his Chartered Accountant designation in 2014. Chad then worked for Grant Thornton LLP in Halifax, Nova Scotia before moving to the Cayman Islands in 2016. Chad is also currently involved as a consultant to CPA Canada where he assists in grading the Common Final Evaluation. He is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada and Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants and volunteers within their mentorship program.
