Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF): Information for employers

Nurture your team’s technical accounting and finance skills with the Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF), designed by the Canadian CPA profession to support your standards of excellence.

Upholding standards is critical to the success of your business. The ACAF is a unique, next-generation accounting and finance certificate designed for individuals aspiring to elevate their accounting and finance skills to an intermediate level. It gives accounting and finance technicians job-ready skills to support your standards of excellence, no matter your sector or industry.

To be awarded the ACAF, every certificate holder will have passed a standardized national exam administered by the profession after completing the education requirements.

Nurture the valuable individuals on your team who support your organization’s goals. Enhance their existing accounting education and experience with the additional technical knowledge, IT applications, communications and soft skills they require to help your organization succeed. They can also choose two elective modules to further develop their skills in areas important to your organization and their career growth, in areas such as:

  • taxation
  • audit
  • corporate finance
  • not-for-profit accounting
  • public sector accounting

Train your employees for success at the intermediate level in:

  • financial accounting
  • management control
  • finance
  • taxation
  • accounting information systems
  • auditing

  • delivered both in-person and online by post-secondary institutions across the country
  • your employees can maintain a successful work-study balance and earn their certificate at a flexible pace
  • full or part-time study option
  • minimal disruption to existing commitments

The program is open to individuals who have studied for a minimum of one year at a recognized post-secondary institution and those working in an accounting function without a recognized credential. Your team members can apply for admission, or even for advanced standing, by demonstrating they have gained equivalent experience or education. The ACAF is also open to internationally-trained accountants wanting to work in Canada.

If at some point any of your employees want to pursue the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, their ACAF training will be recognized towards the undergraduate degree and specific knowledge requirements needed for admission to the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP).

The ACAF builds upon CPA Canada’s reputation for excellence in accounting and business education. It is another example of what CPA Canada does to ensure a highly skilled accounting and finance workforce, making your training and hiring decisions easier.
